With Added 17th Game, Can Any Team Have A Perfect Season?

  • The NFL added a 17th game for the upcoming 2021 NFL regular season.
  • Sportsbooks have betting lines surrounding would a team go 17-0 or 0-17.
  • Longshot odds are on both betting lines.

NEW YORK – Sports betting fans are placing action on whether a team will go perfect this upcoming NFL season.

With the NFL adding a 17th game for the first time, sportsbooks are taking action on if anyone will go 17-0 or 0-17 to end the year. There is also a betting line for if a team will go 20-0, making it all the way to winning the Super Bowl but sportsbooks currently have that betting line locked.

Any Team to go 0-17 Regular Season

  • Yes +1400

Any Team to go 17-0 Regular Season

  • Yes +1600

Last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers went 11-0 before losing their first game. The team ultimately fell flat for the remainder of the season and had a disappointing ending in the post-season.

The best record of the season was the Kansas City Chiefs who only lost two games on the season, but they lost their first game in Week 5.

No team has gone undefeated on the season since the 2007 New England Patriots and they managed to do so while having just 16 games, making the addition of the 17th game turning this betting line into an even more unlikely scenario.

What about teams going 0-17? This betting line is a more likely one to hit, as in just 2017 the Cleveland Browns finished the season going 0-16.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off of a season where they went 1-15, with the New York Jets going 2-14 in the same season. The Jets started the season going 0-12 before winning their first game.

Longshot betting fans have a better shot hitting the +1400 odds for a team going 0-17, making this betting line really tempting for longshot betting fans.

NFL Adds 17th Game

The league for a long time has been working to add an additional game on the season, finally kicking things off for the 2021 NFL season.

"This is a monumental moment in NFL history," said Roger Goodell NFL Commissioner. "The CBA with the players and the recently completed media agreements provide the foundation for us to enhance the quality of the NFL experience for our fans. And one of the benefits of each team playing 17 regular-season games is the ability for us to continue to grow our game around the world."

Now that the 17th game has been added, the undefeated season culminating in a Super Bowl record only held by the Miami Dolphins seems even harder to obtain.

In addition, a team being unable to win even one of 17 games on the season has become a more unlikely event as well.

These NFL prop bets may not hit, but underdog betting fans looking to take a risk could wind up cashing in big should a team shock the NFL world this upcoming season.
