LOS ANGELES – Going into the 2022-23 season, oddsmakers have extremely high expectations for the Los Angeles Chargers across all of the odds boards. Looking at their Super Bowl odds for Super Bowl 57, at +1600 these are their shortest preseason SB odds over the last four seasons.

In fact, their AFC Championship odds (+750) and odds to win the AFC West (+220) are also the shortest preseason odds they’ve seen in four seasons as well. Something else to take note of is that oddsmakers have been very active with the Chargers odds have shifted them forward every chance they get.

Their Super Bowl odds originally opened at +2200 before going down to +1600, their AFC Championship odds opened at +1200, and their division championship odds opened at +400.

There are a couple of factors that come into play that have caused the Chargers odds to shift drastically. The first thing being the emergence of Justin Herbert and the expectations that he has going into next season. Secondly, the Chargers had arguably the best offseason of any team.

Chargers Notable Offseason Acquisitions

  • Khalil Mack
  • J.C. Jackson
  • Kyle Van Noy
  • Troy Reeder
  • Gerald Everett
  • Sebastian Joseph-Day
  • Austin Johnson

The Rise Of Justin Herbert

Going back to the emergence of Herbert, he has tons of player props going into this season that all offer tons of value. Most of his player props are all favored towards the top of the odds board which all help his case of winning the MVP.

Justin Herbert Player Props

  • MVP: +1000
  • OPOY: +2000
  • Most Passing Yards: +650 (Favorite)
  • Most Passing Touchdowns: +550 (Favorite)

It is surprising that Herbert was not in the MVP conversation last season as he absolutely showed out in just his second year in the league. Herbert was second overall in passing yards (5,014), third in touchdowns (38), and had the third-best QBR (65.6).

Oddsmakers have also been busy with Herbert’s odds to win the MVP as well as they first opened at +1250 back in February 2022 and have slowly shifted down to the +1000 they’re at now. That said, if they continue on this path and Herbert backs up his sophomore campaign, right now could be the most profitable time to get in on his odds.
