LAS VEGAS – It might be a little early, but sportsbooks have already released odds as to who will be the first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Spencer Rattler is the betting favorite while Kayvon Thibodeaux and Sam Howell are close behind.

2022 NFL Draft - First Overall Pick Betting Odds

  • Spencer Rattler -110
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux +325
  • Sam Howell +325
  • Tyler Shough +1200
  • J.T. Daniels +1200
  • Malik Willis +1200
  • Kedon Slovis +1200

Spencer Rattler As The Favorite

Spencer Rattler was the No. 1 rated quarterback in his class and has since taken over the starting job for the Oklahoma Sooners. OU has had both Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray be taken with the first pick and sports betting sites suggest Rattler is next in line.

A quarterback has been the No. 1 overall pick for four straight years and the trend could very well continue with six of the seven listed options being quarterbacks.

Kayvon Thibodeaux Only Non-QB Listed

Kayvon Thibodeaux is the only non-quarterback listed as a betting option. Thibodeaux is a defensive end from the Oregon Ducks who has been compared to guys like Myles Garrett who happens to be a former number one overall pick.

Defensive ends have been taken number one overall two times in the last six years, the only position other than quarterback over that span. Thibodeaux was the number two player in his class and recorded nine sacks in his true freshman season.

Sam Howell A Possible Option?

Those betting on the NFL Draft may find some value on Sam Howell out of UNC. Howell had one of the best true freshman quarterback seasons of all time. He set the FBS record with 38 passing touchdowns as a true freshman.

If a quarterback is going to go number one, it’s easy to see why a team may choose Howell over guys like Rattler. Some would argue that Dyami Brown only got drafted (82nd overall) because he had Howell throwing him the ball. He’s a true passer that could be a real star at the next level.
