The Brady-Gronk Reunion Shortens Bucs Super Bowl Odds

  • The New England Patriots traded Rob Gronkowski to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers now have +1200 odds to win the Super Bowl after trading for Gronk.
  • Rob Gronkowski is listed at -120 odds to record over 650 yards this season.

TAMPA BAY, Fla. — It has been quite the offseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they look to get into the playoffs for the first time since 2007. They’ve revamped their roster replacing former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston with six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

The Bucs didn’t stop acquiring talent. On Tuesday they traded a fourth-round pick for former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski who is coming out of retirement to reunite with Brady.

The trade for Gronkowski adds to an already loaded tight end corps that features OJ Howard and Cameron Brate. For the first time in a while, Tom Brady will have numerous weapons to use in the passing game which has fueled the rise of the Buccaneers on the Super Bowl odds board.

Gronk’s Effect on the Buccaneers Super Bowl Odds

Even though Tom Brady and Gronk have not played a game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, their arrivals are being felt by sportsbooks. USA Today wrote that after trading for Gronk the oddsmakers at BetMGM had shortened the Buccaneers Super Bowl LV odds from +1600 to +900.

Even at BetOnline the Buccaneers have climbed up the odds board and now have the fourth shortest odds of any team to win Super Bowl LV while being listed at +1200 odds just days before the NFL Draft.

While the trade for Gronk certainly does elevate the Bucs chances of winning the Super Bowl, Tampa Bay will need to address the running back and safety position in this year’s draft to truly be considered a contender.

Betting on Gronk’s Production This Season

The last time Rob Gronkowski played a season of football the tight end record 47 catches for 682 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. One of the biggest concerns for Gronk is if he will be able to stay healthy over the course of the season.

If he does stay healthy in Bruce Arians' aerial attack system, the resurgence of Gronkowski could be on the way.

Rob Gronkowski Receiving Yards:

  • Over 650 -120
  • Under 650 -120

Winner: Under 650 yards (-120). Although Gronk will remain one of Tom Brady’s trusted targets in Tampa Bay, there are two other younger tight ends on the roster and this could cause a slight dip in Gronk’s production as it remains to be seen how he will be used in the Tampa offensive system. Take the odds on the Under as when they’re updated this will likely be where the profit for the betting prop lies.

Rob Gronkowski Touchdowns 2020 Regular Season:

  • Over 5.5 -115
  • Under 5.5 -115

Winner: Over 5.5 (-115). Rob Gronkowski has only had two seasons in his career where he has failed to catch more than five touchdown passes and both of those seasons were cut short by injuries. Gronk is six foot six and is a redzone nightmare for defenses to stop.

Adding in the reunion with Brady and it’s easy to see why the Over should be taken for this prop. With so many receiving weapons around Gronk, it should make it even easier for him to find holes in the defense.
