LAS VEGAS – While there may be plenty to look forward to in the future for the Las Vegas Raiders, this might not be the year to start backing them.
Super Bowl sportsbooks are fading the Raiders odds at all costs at the bottom of the board with +12500 odds to win the Super Bowl and in last place to win the AFC West.
Las Vegas Raiders Preseason Odds
- Super Bowl: +12500
- AFC Championship: +6000
- AFC West: +1500
- Fernando Mendoza ROY: +450
The Las Vegas Raiders tied their third-worst record in franchise history last year at a 3-14 record. They finished as the worst overall offense in the league in both yards and points per game. Eight of their 14 losses came by a double-digit margin. All of Raiders odds are a step back from last season.
Is Fernando Mendoza The Savior?
Tentatively, Mendoza could very well help bring this Raiders team back to life. He was selected first overall after leading Indiana to a National Championship last season with 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns. He added 276 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns as well.
While Mendoza is favored to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year, he is not listed as the starting QB out of training camp as of right now. Kirk Cousins is listed as the QB1 and is expected to start the season under center.
Given Cousins' track record as of late, we could see Mendoza sooner rather than later. Whenever Mendoza steps in, this is an enticing young offense.
Ashton Jeanty is poised to be one of the league's top running backs, Brock Bowers is argued as a the top tight end in the league today, and Tre Tucker, Jack Bech, and rookie Malik Benson all have big play ability at receiver.
New Defensive Identity
After finishing as a bottom-10 defense in the league last season, the Raiders went out and surrounded Maxx Crosby with Nokobe Dean and Quay Walker on the defensive line and Taron Johnson in the secondary. They also drafted six players on that side of the ball.
