NFL Futures: The Case for Clyde Edwards-Helaire

  • After Kansas City Chiefs running back Damien Williams opted out of the 2020 season, rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire has seen increased odds on online sportsbooks.
  • Edwards-Helaire’s odds for Offensive Rookie of the Year are now at +300, good for second overall.
  • Other prop bets are available for the rookie like a wager on his total receptions set at over 48 for -115 odds.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As if the Kansas City Chiefs needed any more offensive firepower, the hype is now building for rookie running-back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

The versatile back was a key part of the 2019 National Championship winning LSU Tigers squad before being selected with the final pick of the First Round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Now, Edwards-Helaire is the topic of discussion for many fantasy football owners and football future bettors.

The leading running back for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 was Damien Williams, who appeared in 11 regular-season games, scored six playoff touchdowns, and ran for 104 yards in the Super Bowl.

However, news broke at the very end of July that Williams will not be suiting up for the Chiefs in 2020. Williams is electing to opt-out of the season due to reasons relating to the coronavirus.

In reaction to the news, Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s betting odds have shot up across online sportsbooks who believe he might be in line to be the premier back in Andy Reid’s high-powered offense.

One of those odds is the betting line for Offensive Rookie Of the Year,

NFL 2020 Offensive Rookie Of the Year – Winner:

  • Joe Burrow +275
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire +300
  • Jonathan Taylor +800
  • Cam Akers +1000
  • Tua Tagovailoa +1000

As shown, Edwards-Helaire is now second overall to win the award with odds at +300. He falls just behind former teammate and new Cincinnati Bengals leader Joe Burrow at +275.

Other dangerous contenders include Tua Tagovailoa (+1000), D’Andre Swift (+1600), and Jerry Jeudy (+1800).

Online sportsbooks are also offering specific parlays on Edwards-Helaire.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire - Total Receptions:

  • Over 48 Receptions -115
  • Under 48 Receptions -115

Due to the KC pass-heavy system, the tailback is often tasked with catching passes.

In 2019, Williams caught 30 passes out of the backfield good for just over two hundred yards in his limited role.

Pat Mahomes is drooling over the abilities that Clyde Edwards-Helaire has shown of being a receiver. He caught 55 passes for 453 yards from Burrow his last season at LSU.

With Williams gone, C.E.H could be the next weapon in the Chiefs' offensive machine.
