Bengals Announce Betfred Partnership, Applies For Ohio Betting License

  • The Cincinnati Bengals have announced Betfred Sportsbook as their official sports betting, partner.
  • The Bengals also applied for a sports betting license in Ohio, becoming the first NFL team to do so.

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Bengals have become the first NFL team to apply for a sports betting license in Ohio.

The Bengals announced that Betfred will be their official sports betting, partner. This partnership grants Betfred market access in the Buckeye State and allows the Bengals to have a mobile sportsbook should it be approved by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC).

Betfred Meets Bengals

This is a major partnership that would see a mobile betting be run by an NFL sports team. If granted, the Bengals would gain both a type-B license for a retail sportsbook at Paul Brown Stadium and a type-A license for a mobile operation.

“The Bengals continue to look for exciting new ways to enhance the fan experience and this partnership will provide additional opportunities to engage with our fans,” said Brian Sells, Bengals Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “We look forward to working with Betfred to create fun, fan-focused activations that add to the excitement on gameday.”

Ohio’s regulations require commercial sportsbooks have proprietor partnerships with local Ohio entities such as casinos and professional teams. This deal gives Betfred that proprietor partnership and bettors its chance of gaining an approved betting license.

“This is an exciting opportunity to partner with the Bengals as we continue to expand Betfred across the US and into Ohio with the launch of sports betting in the near future,” said Mark Stebbings, Betfred Group Chief Operating Officer. “The Bengals are a premier franchise with a passionate fanbase and a history of innovation that aligns with our brand. We look forward to engaging with fans across the state as we introduce them to unique betting promotions and content throughout the year.”

Betfred and the Bengals betting partnership will be a first for the NFL. No professional team has a sportsbook in Ohio.

Arizona sees the Arizona Cardinals offer sports betting through its partnership with BetMGM. These deals increases the NFL’s commitment to the sports betting industry.

Ohio Sports Betting Incoming

Ohio should see sports betting go live on January 1, 2023, which is the target launch date. Alongside the Bengals, the Cleveland Browns also have a partnership with Bally’s Interactive. The Browns and Bally’s have not been announced to have applied for a license.

Ohio has seen license applications constantly and has been announcing these applicants every Friday. It appears fans are well on the way to seeing a live betting market in the Buckeye State.
