What Brady’s New Contract Means For Betting On Tampa Bay In 2021

  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the second shortest odds at +650 to win Super Bowl 56.
  • Tom Brady’s extension will create $19 million in cap space for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

TAMPA, Fla. – The defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Tom Brady have agreed to an extension that will give the team more cap space in 2021 as they try to bring back key pieces on both sides of the ball to defend their title in the upcoming season.

Before Brady inked this extension the Buccaneers were $7.7 million over the salary cap and still needed to get under the salary cap to retain key contributors from their 31-9 Super Bowl LV victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The extension will help the Buccaneers bring back free-agent defensive lineman Shaquil Barrett, while also giving the team more breathing room to make other moves after placing the franchise tag on wide receiver Chris Godwin. Tampa Bay could save additional money towards the cap this year by signing Godwin to a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline. However, it is assumed that the Bucs will bring back Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown on low-cost deals.

Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David also signed a two-year team-friendly deal to keep the Super Bowl-winning team intact earlier this week.

The Buccaneers creating cap space will give them the necessary ammunition to bring back Barrett as well as possibly other playmakers in free agency.

The impact of Brady’s extension on the Buccaneers betting odds for the 2021 season is huge as Tampa will bring back much of the team that won the franchise its second Lombardi Trophy.

While the Buccaneers’ odds to repeat are on the shorter end of the spectrum they’re not favored to win the SB 56 at Bovada.

Odds To Win Super Bowl 56

  • Kansas City Chiefs +500
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +650
  • Green Bay Packers +1100
  • Buffalo Bills +1200
  • Los Angeles Rams +1300

Despite beating the Chiefs in the most recent Super Bowl the Buccaneers remain behind them on the odds board with +650 odds to win Super Bowl LVI. The extension Brady signed today should give bettors more confidence in betting on the Buccaneers in the upcoming NFL season as they’ll be bringing back most of the roster with Shaquil Barrett being the top priority on Tampa Bay’s offseason to-do list.

The Bucs have most of their roster already signed to deals with Barrett being the last and most important piece left. Losing Barrett won’t affect the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl betting odds, but it will hurt their defense. Nonetheless, Brady’s extension means Tampa Bay is committed to winning now, and for NFL bettors that means the Buccaneers should be one of the most bet on teams to not only win the Super Bowl but each week.

Whether looking to bet on the Bucs for a single game, player prop, or futures expect this team to be among the best in the NFL once again as Tom Brady has his eyes set on Super Bowl ring No. 8.
