Seattle Seahawks Favored To Resign Richard Sherman For 2021

  • The Seattle Seahawks have +225 odds to sign Richard Sherman.
  • Resigning with the San Francisco 49ers is second in line with +450 odds.
  • Other teams like the New York Jets (+950) sit on the Sherman free agency odds list.

SEATTLE – After seven years with the Seattle Seahawks and three years with the San Francisco 49ers, Richard Sherman is a free agent again for the second time in his career.

Though there is still time, the waiting game is coming to an end as teams pursue Sherman and the five-time NFL All-Pro corner pursues clubhouses.

Like any rumor-filled situation, NFL sportsbooks have listed a prop bet on where Sherman will play on Week 1.

Odds On Richard Sherman Week 1 Team

  • Seattle Seahawks +225
  • San Fransisco 49ers +450
  • New Orleans Saints +350
  • New York Jets +950
  • Las Vegas Raiders +225
  • Los Angeles Chargers +950
  • Indianapolis Colts +950
  • Cleveland Browns +950

After not missing a game from 2012 to 2016, Sherman hasn’t played a full season since the season before rupturing his Achilles. Still, the five-time Pro Bowler is highly valued, with his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, leading the oddsboard.

As Sherman wants to play for a title contender and only for two more seasons reuniting with Seattle does line up.

However, the secondary for Seattle is in a state of imbalance. Safety Jamal Adams is their clear leader but will become an unrestricted free agent if not resigned before the upcoming season ends.

Likewise, safety Quandre Diggs and corners D.J. Reed and Akhello Witherspoon are in the same boat.

With so much uncertainty, it is hard to see the favored Seahawks make this move.

Will Sherman Resign In San Francisco?

After resigning Jason Verrett, it proved that Sherman is a lower priority than 29-year-old cornerback. While age could play a factor, it seems to be focused more upon the defensive scheme.

Sherman is known for being a zone defender, while Verrett is considered more of a “lockdown corner” due to his man-to-man skills.

Furthermore, Ambry Thomas (Michigan) and Deommodore Lenoir (Oregon) were drafted by the Niners – both who lined up in man coverage in college. With this, it appears the Niners are looking to move away from Robert Salah’s zone mindset and into a full man coverage.

Other Options For Richard Sherman

Rejoining with Robert Salah in New York has been floated around. Sitting with +950 odds, a small risk on the Jets could reward NFL betting fans with a very decent payout.

The only thing standing in the way would be the contender status. Still a few years away, the Jets may also look to take another year of average-ness to take advantage of the future cap increase.

With about $25 million in cap space before signing their draft picks, the Jets will remain one of the top options for players looking for a major pay day this and next season.

One team not on the oddsboard is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sherman has been quoted saying “I’m not afraid of the AFC North” when discussing joining Pittsburgh with Stephen A Smith.

Regardless of where Sherman ends up, his goal to return to a Super Bowl will be his top priority. Only time will tell the end result, but Sherman remains on the clock to decide his future.
