How Have The Last MNF Betting Odds Fared This Season?

  • The Over has a 3-6 record on Monday Night Football this season.
  • The New England Patriots are 10-point favorites over the New York Jets.
  • Only three teams have covered the spread in Monday Night Football games through nine weeks.

NEW YORK Monday Night Football has long been the concluding piece to the NFL week for decades. This week’s AFC East matchup between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots in Week 9 will be better than the betting odds reflect.

First, looking at the Monday Night Football (MNF) betting trends this season it’s clear that a lot of these games haven’t gone as oddsmakers predict. For example, the over has hit in three of the nine games on MNF this season and only three favorites have covered the spread.

The underdogs have performed better than expected on the Monday Night Football stage and the Jets could be the next team to do so.

The Jets hosting the Patriots on the surface seems like a blowout game but with the struggles of the Patriots, this game will be tightly contested. Considering the MNF trends this season this will be a close game for the Jets.

Only one MNF matchup has seen a team win by more than 14 points and that is not likely to change tonight.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets @ 8:15 p.m. EST

  • Moneyline: Patriots (-450) vs. Jets (+325)
  • Spread: Patriots (-10)
  • O/U: 42 Points

The Jets have an 0-8 record through eight games this year and have a 1-7 mark ATS. The only time the Jets won a game ATS this year was when they were the home team.

Those records probably don’t make bettors excited about putting money on a Jets team that will be without starting quarterback Sam Darnold.

Veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco will get the start and although he’s not as mobile as Darnold, he can still push the ball down the field which will give the Patriots defense some problems. The 10-point spread for this game could be covered by the Jets as this game could wind up being closer than many expect especially with Flacco leading the way.

The Jets defense will keep this game close as the Patriots are a run-heavy team and the run defense of New York is a strength for the team.

The New England Patriots coming into this game have been struggling on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

The Patriots have lost their last four games and quarterback Cam Newton hasn’t recorded a touchdown in his last three games but has thrown five interceptions. Before covering against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8, the Patriots had lost their last three-game ATS.

The Patriots are not a lock to cover either as they have a 3-4 record ATS on the season and have yet to win a game as the road team this year.

The 42-point total for this game is low and with each offense struggling to put up points this season the Under should be taken. The Under has hit in seven of the last eight meetings between the Patriots-Jets and considering the Under is 6-3 on Monday Night this year, that’s the best bet for this game.

While the Jets might not win this game, all signs point to them making this a close game and covering. With the Patriots downward spiral in recent weeks, the Jets will have an opportunity to show improvement midway through the season.
