NEW YORK – Sunday of NFL Week 1 comes to an end with an NFC East Sunday Night Football showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. Oddsmakers expect a close matchup with just a field goal spread set for the game.
Super Bowl sportsbooks give the edge to the Cowboys here, and rightfully so. The Giants are coming off a 2025 season where they went 3-4 at home last season as outright underdogs.

Cowboys Defense Makes The Difference
After the Cowboys defense allowed the third most offensive yards and most points per game to opponents last season, that unit could be the difference maker on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys added two of the top defensive tackles in the league last season, Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams, and have built around them. They added Dee Winters and Rashan Gary to round out the front seven and Jalen Thompson, Cobie Durant, and first-round rookie Caleb Downs in the secondary.
Although there is some excitement surrounding the New York Giants on NFL betting sites with John Harbaugh coming in as head coach, this is still a team that finished 4-13 last season. While they did make moves on both sides of the ball on offense and defense, it’ll take some time for all of those pieces to come together.
As far as defense goes, the Giants were not far behind the Cowboys last season as they finished in the bottom five in yards and points allowed. Dallas was a top-10 offense last season, putting up the second most yards per game and 27.7 points per game. Their main issue last season was injuries. They are back to full strength this season and ready to go in Week 1.
