MNF Props: Patrick Mahomes MNF Odds Suggest Bounceback Game

  • Patrick Mahomes had his worst game of the season in Week 7, with 206 passing yards.
  • Mahomes has -114 odds to pass for more than 301.5 yards against the New York Giants.
  • He has accomplished this feat three times, and missed it four times.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Patrick Mahomes had one of the worst games of his career in Week 7, passing for 206 yards with an interception on his record and no touchdowns.

Up against a New York Giants defense ranked 13th in passing yards allowed per game, Mahomes’ props are fairly ambitious as NFL betting markets seem to expect a return to form for both Mahomes and the preseason Super Bowl favorite Kansas City Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes Passing Yards O/U

  • Over 301.5 -114
  • Under 301.5 -114

Mahomes has had what many are calling a down season, but he’s still fifth in the NFL in passing yards with 2093. This means that he’s averaging slightly less than 301.5 passing yards per game, and out of seven games, he’s passed for more than 301.5 yards only three times.

The Giants are giving up 243.1 passing yards per game, which is good for 13th in the NFL - a top-half defense.

Patrick Mahomes Passing Touchdowns O/U

  • Over 2.5 -102
  • Under 2.5 -132

Mahomes has passed for 18 touchdowns in his seven games so far, but he started on an incredible pace - 14 touchdowns in his first four games - and has since slowed down.

He’s passed for more than 2.5 touchdowns in four games, and less than 2.5 touchdowns in three more, and enters this game on a three game streak of missing 2.5 touchdowns. Signs look positive though as the Giants are allowing an average of 2.0 passing touchdowns per game, which is ranked 22nd in the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes Rushing Yards O/U

  • Over 21.5 -114
  • Under 21.5 -114

Mahomes has shown some ability to do damage on the ground, even in his worst games this season.

Much of this is due to how defenses are playing against him - dropping two defensive backs deep often allows Mahomes lanes to run, but limits his excellent arm and forces him to be patient instead of looking for the big play. Mahomes has run for more than 21.5 yards in his last five games, although he did miss that number in his first two.

The Giants are 24th in the NFL against the run, and although much of that damage has been done by running backs, Mahomes’ five-game streak speaks to an ability to get his yardage on the ground.

The Kansas City Chiefs face off against the New York Giants at 8:15 p.m. EST on Monday Night Football. The game will be broadcast on ESPN/ABC.
