Betting on Super Bowl Contending Teams with Valued ROY WRs

  • The Bengals had +8000 odds to win the AFC Championship in 2021 and Ja’Marr Chase had +1100 ROY odds. Chase become the second player in NFL history to win ROY and make it to the Super Bowl.
  • Chris Olave, Christian Watson, and Skyy Moore are three rookie wide receivers with odds around +1000 to win ROY. These players are all on Super Bowl-contending teams that have odds from +1000 to +4000.

CINCINNATI, Oh. – During the 2021-22 NFL preseason, Ja’Marr Chase was a betting underdog to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at +1200 and made history in his first NFL season.

Ja’Marr Chase was the leading receiver for the Bengals, who had +8000 AFC Championship odds, and become the second player in NFL history to win both the ROY award and make a Super Bowl appearance in the same season.

The only other player to achieve both in their rookie season was Tony Dorsett with the Dallas Cowboys in 1978. There are odds for this to happen again during the 2022-23 season, with multiple ROY candidates playing for Super Bowl 57 contending teams.

The top three players that are starting their career on an NFL-caliber team all play the wide receiver and two of them fill a similar role that Ja’Marr Chase did for the Bengals after the loss of AJ green in 2021. There is more betting value for the wide receiver position, with a rookie QB never having made the Super Bowl.

Christian Watson – Green Bay Packers

After losing Devante Adams to the Raiders and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Chiefs, Aaron Rodgers is heading into the 2022 season with not much help at wide receiver.

Christian Watson was drafted 34th overall by the Packers and has +1200 ROY odds. Watson has betting value for the Packers who have +1000 Super Bowl 57 odds because the young receiver could see plenty of action in an offense that is lacking in the position.

Skyy Moore – Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Skyy Moore with the 54th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and the rookie WR has +1000 odds to win ROY. Moore could be a part of the process of replacing Tyreek Hill for the Chiefs, who currently have +1000 odds to win Super Bowl 57.

It is important to note that the Chiefs picked up JuJu Smith-Schuster during the offseason, which already helps fill Hill’s absence from the team.

Chris Olave – New Orleans Saints

With the 11th overall pick in the 2022 Draft, the Saints drafted Chris Olave who currently has +1000 odds to win ROY. The Saints have +4000 Super Bowl 57 odds but are one of the underdog betting teams with value with Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas returning from injury.

While Olave does have value, the Saints are stacked this season in the receiver position and Olave will have to make an immediate connection whit Winston to see enough production to become a serious ROY candidate.
