Overreaction Monday: Biggest Takeaways From Week 13

  • Should Gardner Minshew be the starting quarterback in Philadelphia following his performance?
  • The Miami Dolphins are quietly one of the better teams in the AFC, on a five-game win streak.
  • The Minnesota Vikings have to be the most unbettable team in the NFL following their loss to the Detroit Lions.

PHILADELPHIA – There’s a case that Gardner Minshew should be the permanent start for the Philadelphia Eagles while the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings also make a splash in the NFL in Week 13.

Gardner Minshew QB1 In Philly?

Gardner Minshew quarterbacked the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13 and put on a show. He completed 20 of his 25 passes and compiled 242 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in his first start of the season and for the franchise.

It would be among Jalen Hurts’ best starts of the season.

Minshew completed 80% of his passes which Hurts has been unable to do this season. Hurts also hasn’t broken 242 yards in any of his last eight games. Essentially, Minshew came off the bench for his first action of the season and had the best performance Philadelphia has seen in over two months.

Many people will say Minshew was only able to succeed because he was playing the New York Jets, but Hurts played an equally bad team in the New York Giants the week before and went 14-for-31 for 129 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Miami Dolphins Quietly Becoming Playoff Hopefuls

While the New England Patriots have been getting all of the hype in the world for their six-game winning streak, the AFC East has another team on a five-game winning streak that seemingly nobody is talking about.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t lost since October and will now have a BYE week to prepare for the Jets in what should be another win. Early odds on NFL betting sites show the Dolphins as sizable favorites.

Dolphins vs Jets Spread Odds

  • New York Jets +6.5 -110
  • Miami Dolphins -6.5 -110

Miami is not too far out of the playoff picture but will likely need some help from the teams ahead of them to reach the postseason. The Dolphins will play the Jets and follow up with games against the injured and depleted Saints and Titans and close the season against the Patriots who could potentially be resting starters.

The Minnesota Vikings Should Never Be Bet On Again

The Minnesota Vikings should not be bet on, or against, for the remainder of the season as it’s seemingly impossible to predict which team is going to come out of the locker room.

The Vikings lost to the Detroit Lions last week, but have also beaten the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Chargers in the last month.

The team is 6-6 ATS on the season and are labeled as favorites once again in Week 14 by online sportsbooks in their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steelers vs Vikings Spread Odds

  • Pittsburgh Steelers +3.0 EVEN
  • Minnesota Vikings -3.0 -120

There’s no excuse for a team to play the Lions twice and have a total score differential of 0 points but also have wins over teams like the Packers. Simply stay away from this team moving forward.
